Engraver tools comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and they are commonly made up of a hardened steel called a burin. Burin is used to cut designs into the surface of metals, most traditionally a copper plate. Engraving is the process of incising a design onto a hard, flat surface, by cutting grooves into it. Engraver tools come in a variety of sizes and shapes that yield different line types. The result may vary upon the kind of engraver and engraving materials that is being used. It may be a decorative object itself, as when gold are engraved, or may provide an intaglio plate when copper is used or even a simple relief print block when woods are engraved.

Digital Clamp Meters Recalled by Fluke Due to Shock Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Fluke Digital Clamp Meters

Units: About 52,000

Manufacturer: Fluke Corp., of Everett, Wash.

Hazard: The meters can fail to give an appropriate voltage reading, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off, posing a shock, electrocution, or thermal burn hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Fluke has received three reports of clamp meters displaying an incorrect voltage reading. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Fluke Digital Clamp Meters with model and serial numbers listed below. The model number may be followed by an "A."

Serial numbers that begin with "S" or are followed by "R" are not included in the recall. "Fluke" and the model number are printed on the front of the unit and the serial number on the back. The instrument body is yellow, red, and black. The clamp meters measure 0 to 600 volts alternating current (VAC), 0 to 600 volts direct current (VDC) and 0 to 400, 600 or 1000 amps alternating current.

Sold at: Industrial distributors, electrical wholesalers and some hardware stores nationwide from January 2008 through February 2009 for between $150 and $375.

Manufacturer: Fluke Corporation, of Everett, Wash.

Hazard: The testers can fail to give an indication of live voltage, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off, posing a risk of serious injury or death from electrical shock or thermal burns.

Incidents/Injuries: No injuries have been reported.

Description: The Fluke voltage testers look like a pen with a yellow, white and gray body. The testers measure 90 to 1000 volts alternating current (VAC). “Fluke” and the model number are printed on the front of each unit. The recall involves Fluke 1AC-A1-I VoltAlert® tester with the following model and item numbers:

Extech Instruments Recalls Digital Clamp and Multimeters due to Electrocution Hazard

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Products: Digital clamp meters and multimeters

Units: 5,100 units

Manufacturer: Extech Instruments, of Waltham, Mass.

Hazard: When the battery runs low, the meters can fail to give an accurate voltage reading, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off or low. This poses an electrocution hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Extech received one report of a meter displaying an incorrect voltage reading. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Extech digital clamp meters with model numbers EX612, EX613, EX622 and EX623 and multimeters with model numbers EX540, EX542 and EX570. “Extech” and the model number can be found on the front of the product and the serial number on the rear. Serial numbers that begin with "A" are not included in the recall.

Sold at: Industrial and electrical distributors and wholesalers nationwide and at online tool and test equipment retailers from January 2008 to November 2010 for between $150 and $300.
